MEN’S LACROSSE FALLS TO BISHOP'S

Daniel Fleming scored four goals as the Varsity Blues men’s lacrosse team dropped a 12-8 decision to the Bishop’s Gaiters on Saturday, September 11 at Coulter Field in Lennoxville, Que.

In what proved to be a penalty-filled affair, Fleming scored U of T’s first two, however, Bishop’s built an early 4-2 lead after the first quarter.

The Gaiters would add two more early in the second; however, Eric Shedlosky added a short-handed marker at the midway point of the frame. Bishop’s scored another two to gain an 8-3 lead at halftime.

The third quarter saw Gaiters leading scorer Josh Crone tally two early goals before Patrick Belisle and Andrew Kerr answered back for U of T.

Fleming potted two more in the fourth but Bishop’s responded each time. Despite a late goal by Blues midfielder Michael Buwalda, Toronto could not amount a comeback and dropped their first game of the 2010 season.

Crone tallied a game-high five goals, while Jesse Gattelaro and Joseph Laleune had three points apiece in the win.

Fleming’s five goals led Toronto and Shelosky, Belisle and Daly Connor each chipped in with two points in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow when they head to Montreal to take on the McGill Redmen at Forbes Field. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
