The 1957-58 Varsity Blues men’s basketball team was inducted into the University of Toronto Sports Hall of Fame on Thursday, May 27 at Hart House Theatre.
The team was one of the strongest basketball teams to ever play in senior intercollegiate competition. They won Toronto’s first OQAA championship in 17 years, finishing the season 17-7 overall, including 9-1 in league play.
They were aided in the championship drive by leading scorer Don Lipke, who averaged 12.6 points per game. Al Vaichulis and Geroge Stulac averaged 10.6 and 8.1 points per game, respectively. George Stulac played on the 1956 Canadian Olympic basketball team. Gary Vipond participated in the pre-Olympic basketball tournament in 1960. Rollit Goldring, Ruby Richman, George Stulac, Joseph Stulac competed for Canada at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The Sports Hall of Fame honours U of T's greatest athletes and builders. It was established by the T-Holders' Association in 1987 as part of an ongoing effort to preserve and display the records relating to the outstanding historical tradition of athletic, academic and community leadership fostered by the University of Toronto.
