Varsity Blues fifth-year leftside hitter Heather Bansley was named a first team all-Canadian at the 2010 CIS women’s volleyball championship awards gala on Thursday night at the University of Alberta.
Bansley of Waterdown, Ont. , who was the OUA's nominee for the player of the year award, earns her second consecutive all-Canadian nod after being named to the second team last season.
The English and linguistics major ranked first on the OUA leader board in points per game (5.17), kills per game (4.26) and serving aces per game (0.70). Bansley also led the Blues with a combined 25 kills and 41 digs as Toronto earned their first provincial title and berth to the CIS national championship since 2004 at the OUA Final Four tournament, Feb 26-27.

The 2010 CIS championship gets under way Friday at the University of Alberta. The Varsity Blues take on the Manitoba Bisons at 6:30 p.m. (MST) in their first game of the three-day event. SSN Canada will have live webcasts of all 11 match-ups (www.cis-sic.ca or www.ssncanada.ca).
