BLUES SOAR OVER GOLDEN HAWKS

Box Score The No. 8 Varsity Blues women’s basketball team came away with a 60-52 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday, November 27 at Wilfrid Laurier’s Athletic Complex.

With the win, the Blues improve to 7-2 and remain atop the OUA East division heading into the holiday break. The Hawks drop to 6-2 and are in second place in the West.

Toronto native Nicki Schutz led the Blues with a team-high 14 points and 18 boards, while veteran guard Erin McNeely of Kingston, Ont., had 11 points and Brampton, Ont., native Sherri Pierce recorded 10 points in the win.

The Blues held the hometown Hawks to single digits over the first two quarters of play and built a 25-17 lead at halftime. Toronto continued their solid play over the second half to secure their third straight victory.

Laurier was led by Felicia Mazerolle’s game-high 19 points, while Bree Chaput had 10 in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to the court, December 28-30, when they travel to Calgary for the Dinos Holiday Hoops tournament.
