BLUES FALL TO LANCERS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team fell to the Windsor Lancers 3-1 (25-18, 18-25, 25-23, 25-17) on Sunday, November 14 at St. Denis Centre in Windsor, Ont.

The Lancers took an early lead in the opening set and refused to let the Blues past their defence. Ryan Le (Windsor, Ont.) was a key competitor for the Lancers, scoring eight kills throughout the set and earning the Lancers a 25-18 victory.

The Blues pulled together coming into the second set, leading for most of the match, through both technical time-outs. The Blues, with the help of Jake Dysselhof of Mississauga, Ont. and Dundas, Ont., native Jonathan Adomait, reached a seven-point lead over the Lancers, taking the set 25-18.

The third set was the closest with neither team able to gain a definitive lead through into the end. The play was long and hard for both teams; however, the Lancers Jimmy El-Turk ultimately nabbed the final set point, 25-23.

The Blues seemed to lose it in the fourth set after the Lancers took an early five point lead. Unable to regain control of the game, the Blues fell further behind, leading them to a 25-17 loss.

Dysselhof was the high scorer for the Blues with 16 kills and eight digs, followed by Adomait with nine kills, Adam Palmer (Ottawa) with eight, and Killian Newman (Kelowna, B.C.) with seven.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, November 27 when they travel to Waterloo, Ont., to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m.
