The Varsity Blues men’s lacrosse team fell 15-5 to the Bishop’s Gaiters in Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association (CUFLA) quarter-final action on Saturday, October 30 at Coulter Field in Sherbrooke, Que.
Varsity Blues athlete of the week Mike Ayotte opened the scoring and first-year midfielder Michael Buwalda (Toronto) put the Blues up by two with a goal of his own early in the first quarter. Bishop’s went on to even the score as the game was deadlocked at 2-2 heading into the second.
Ayotte tallied his second goal of the game to give the Blues a 3-2 lead; however, the Gaiters answered back with two to take the lead. Ayotte would add one more with 30 seconds remaining to leave the game tied at 4-4 at halftime.
Buwalda added his second goal after Bishop’s scored twice early on. The Gaiters picked up the pace through the rest of the game and went on to score nine unanswered goals to earn the win.
