MEN’S RUGBY FALLS TO GRYPHONS

The Varsity Blues men’s rugby team fell 24-10 to the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday, October 23 at Scarborough Campus.

With the loss, the Blues finish their 2010 regular season campaign with a 2-6 record in seventh place, just shy of the last playoff spot.

The Gryphons took an early 10-0 lead but the Blues battled back with a try from Mississauga, Ont., native Nicholas Smith and a penalty goal and convert from fourth-year veteran Alex Dwhytie to tie the game 10-10 at the half.

Toronto struggled to capitalize early in the second half and Guelph finally took advantage, scoring two tries in the final 20 minutes to earn the 14-point victory.

Thomas Sobotka led the Gryphons with one try and two converts, while Nathan Lippert, Robin White, and Mark Dinsmore scored a try each in the win.
