Fourth-year defender Mike Ayotte scored four goals to lead the Varsity Blues men’s lacrosse team to a 9-7 victory over the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday, October 23 at Tindall Field in Kingston, Ont.
Toronto got out to an early lead as Ayotte (Peterborough, Ont.) tallied the only goal of the first quarter.
The Gaels scored two quick goals at the beginning of the second but Ayotte pulled them even with his second of the game, assisted by Eric Shedlosky of Mississauga, Ont.
Queen’s scored two more before Toronto's Daniel Fleming pulled them back within one before the half.
In the third quarter, Toronto levelled the score at the 13-minute mark as Fleming netted his second of the game and Ayotte adding his third.
Queen’s evened the score at 5-5 before Shedlosky scored to give the Blues a narrow one-goal lead heading into the final frame.
Ayotte notched his fourth goal of the game, a short handed marker, and Andrew Kerr of Courtice, Ont., scored another to put the Blues up by two.
The Gaels fought back with two goals late in the game, but first-year engineering major Corey Wright restored the two-goal lead as Toronto earned their second win of the season.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow when they host the Bishop’s Gaiters at Back Campus. Game time is 1 p.m.
