BLUES WIN TWO ON THE ROAD, ADVANCE TO SEMIFINALS

The Varsity Blues field hockey team clinched second place with two victories over the York Lions and Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, October 23 in Waterloo, Ont.

The Blues finish the season 13-1-0 and await the result of Guelph’s last game versus York to determine who will finish first in the standings. Either way, both Toronto and Guelph advance to the semifinals next Saturday at Downsview Stadium.

Fifth-year forward Yvonne Langen of Cambridge, Ont., led the Blues with two goals in a 4-0 victory over York, while Alex Thick and Kaelan Watson added single tallies in the win.

The Blues got out to a slow start versus Waterloo, but battled back to take the game 7-2. Langen and Alexandra Evanysnyn (Burlington, Ont.) each netted two goals, while Thicke, Kyesia O’Neale and Emily Roy scored one each to round out the victory.

“It was a great way to finish league play,” said head coach John DeSouza. “We are happy to note that of our 20 players, we have had 15 different scorers this year.”
