Roxana Soica won both her doubles and singles matches as the Varsity Blues women’s tennis team fell 5-2 to the Western Mustangs on Saturday, October 2 at Scarborough Campus.
Soica of Toronto teamed up with Dominic Karas (Halifax) to take the number one doubles match 8-7. Unforunately, Western’s number two and three doubles teams got past Toronto to earn the lone doubles point*.
Soica then won her number three match 6-2, 6-2 versus Western’s Chantal Foristal. Whitby, Ont., native Cecilia Pye accounted for the Blues other win of the day, coming from behind to defeat Carolyn Agabriel 0-6, 6-2, 7-5.
The Varsity Blues return to the court tomorrow when they travel to Oshawa, Ont., to take on the UOIT Ridgebacks. Matches are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
*Scoring: Score 1 point per match win for singles and 1 point for the team winning 2 or 3 doubles matches, for a total of 7 points
