BLUES DOWN WATERLOO FOR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

The Varsity Blues women’s hockey team defeated the Waterloo Warriors 2-0 on Saturday, October 16 at Columbia Ice Field.

After a scoreless first period, fourth-year forward Lindsay Hill of Ajax, Ont., finally got the Blues on the board with a powerplay marker towards the end of the second frame. Callie Bazak of Peterborough, Ont., sent a shot from the point on net, which was tipped by forward Brenley Jorgensen (Kingston, Ont.) and Hill was there to bury the rebound.

Jorgensen would add an empty net insurance goal within the last minute of the game to round out the 2-0 victory.

Blues goalie Kendyl Valenta of Brampton, Ont., made 27 saves in the shut out win.

The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host their 2010-11 home opener versus the OUA defending Laurier Golden Hawks at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 4 p.m.
