BLUES EDGED BY BADGERS

Emily Milito scored two goals as the Varsity Blues women’ s hockey team dropped a 4-3 decision to the Brock Badgers on Sunday, October 10 at Seymour-Hannah Centre in St. Catharines, Ont.

Fourth-year forward Brenley Jorgensen of Kingston, Ont., opened the scoring on the Blues first powerplay opportunity of the game when she shot the puck over the glove of 2009-10 OUA all-star goaltender Beth Clause.

Brock fired back six minutes later when Brianne Veale buried a Kristen Dewsbury rebound. The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 after the first frame.

The Badgers would go ahead with two powerplay markers in the first nine minutes of the second period. Milito narrowed the gap to one when she shot the puck through a scramble to find the back of the net at the 10:53 mark.

Brock again extended their lead to two with an early goal in the third period off the stick of Dewsbury.

U of T was able to pull rookie goaltender Nicole Kesteris with 30 seconds remaining in the game and Milito notched her second goal of the game with just eight seconds remaining. The Ottawa native was in good position and tipped a Callie Bazak (Peterborough, Ont.) point shot past Clause and into the net.

Kesteris (Aurora, Ont.) recorded 24 saves in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, October 16 when they travel to Waterloo, Ont. to take on the Warriors at 2 p.m.
