RAVENS CLAW PAST BLUES

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team fell 12-7 to the Carleton Ravens on Saturday, October 9 in Ottawa.

Carleton's Tim Bergin of Kingston, Ont., notched the first goal of the game assisted by Corey Fowler (Niagara on the Lake, Ont.), who landed a goal minutes later. The Ravens went on to score another three goals before Blues middleman Matthew Hoskins (Ochorios, Jamaica) managed to score at the last minute to get Toronto on the board.

Will Dunlop of Windsor, Ont. continued to narrow the gap, scoring the first goal of the second quarter. Both teams strengthened their defence and the score stayed stable right up until the dying minutes when Lewandowski managed to nab another one for Carleton.

Alex Burpee (Ottawa) and Bergin tallied three goals for Carleton in the third, only to be answered back by U of T attacker Mike Ayotte of Peterborough, Ont., Toronto native Daniel Fleming and Dunlop. Carleton held a 9-5 lead going into the final stretch.

Unfortunately, Carleton continued to widen the gap with three unanswered goals in the first 10 minutes of the fourth. Fleming responded for Toronto, scoring two goals and in the last three minutes of play to end the game at 12-7 in favour of the Ravens.

The Varsity Blues return to the field on Saturday, October 16 when they travel to Peterborough, Ont., to take on the Trent Excalibur. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
