The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s soccer team blanked the Trent Excalibur 3-0 on Wednesday, September 30 in Peterborough, Ont.
The Excalibur were in tough against the No.9 Blues and did not help themselves at all in the early going, scoring an own goal in the 32nd minute to give the Blues a 1-0 lead.
Toronto finally mustered a second goal at the beginning of the second half when Seung Bok Lee (North York, Ont.) scored in the 51st minute of play, extending the Blues lead. Nordo Gooden (Kingston, Jam.) then added another marker in the 63rd minute as Toronto cruised to an easy 3-0 victory.
Mississauga native John Smits made four saves on Wednesday evening to earn the shutout.
With the win, the Varsity Blues have jumped ahead of Queen’s University and move to first place in the OUA East standing. Gooden joins CIS athlete of the week, Alexander Raphael, at the top of the Blues scoring leader board with four goals apiece.
