The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s tennis team recorded a 7-0 victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Sunday, September 27 in Waterloo, Ont.
The Blues handily won all three doubles matches by a score of 8-2. Toronto natives Aisha Bhimla and Maria Ojdrovic played in the number one match, while Daria Zakharchenko (Sochi, RUS) and Nina Garcia (Brasila, Brazil) competed as the Blues number two duo. Rounding out the doubles was Toronto number three pair of Christina Dykun (Crystal Lake, Ill.) and Anna Sullivan (Toronto).
Toronto continued to dominate into the afternoon, handily winning all singles matches in two sets. Zakharchenko played in the number one spot for the Blues, defeating Waterloo 6-2, 6-1. Bhimla was equally as good in the number two match, winning 6-1, 6-2, while Garcia had the closest singles match of the day in the number three spot, winning 6-3, 7-5.
Kamini Raghuram (Vancouver, B.C.) came in and defeated Warriors number four 6-3, 6-1, while Kaylie Cunningham (Burlington, Ont.) took the number five match 6-0, 6-3. Ojdrovic ended the day with a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the number six match.
