GAITERS GET PAST BLUES 18-8

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s lacrosse team fell 18-8 to the Bishop’s Gaiters in a penalty-filled affair on Sunday, September 27 at Coulter Field in Lennoxville, Que.

The game saw 36 penalties in total, 15 for the Varsity Blues and 21 for the Gaiters.

U of T’s leading scorer Mikael Chullen (Toronto) opened up the scoring in the first minute of the game off a pass from Clarington, Ont. native Andrew Kerr. However, the Gaiters scored six goals over the span of 10 minutes before Chullen added his second goal of the game off a pass from first-year engineering student Marc Anthony Koukoulas (Boston, Mass.).

Bishop’s went on to score five second-quarter goals, two of which came on the powerplay, while third-year Blues attacker Will Dunlop (Toronto) scored his first goal of the game and Chullen secured his hat trick performance.

The Gaiters held an 11-4 lead at halftime.

Bishop’s added another three markers in the third quarter before fourth-year midfield Matthew Hoskins (Ochos Rios, JAM) and Koukoulas scored back-to-back goals at the eight and six minute mark, respectively.

The fourth quarter saw a Gaiters powerplay goal and an even strength marker in between two Blues tallies from Kerr.

Kerr led the Blues with two goals and three assists, while Chullen had three goals and one assist. Dunlop and Koukoulas recorded two points apiece in the loss.

Bishop’s was led by Mike Dube’s seven goals and six assists.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, October 3 as they travel to Peterborough, Ont. to take on the Trent Excalibur. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
