The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s lacrosse team dropped a 15-6 decision to the McGill Redmen on Saturday, September 26 at Forbes Field in Montreal.
The Redmen took a commanding lead, scoring eight unanswered goals over the first 22 minutes of play. Toronto replied with two goals of their own, off the sticks of James Forbes (Campbellville, Ont.) and Mikael Chullen (Toronto). Chullen would add his second goal of the game with 6:35 remaining in the half.
McGill held an 11-3 lead at the midway point of the game.
Toronto turned up the tempo in the second half, as the play was much more evenly matched between the two squads. Chullen scored 10 seconds into the third quarter, only to be answered back by McGill attacker Matt Jankowski (Brewster, N.Y.).
The Blues struck early again in the fourth quarter with two goals from Chullen and Matthew Hoskins (Ochos Rios, JAM). However, McGill would end the game on a high note, scoring three goals in the last seven minutes to come away with the 15-6 victory.
Chullen scored four of the Blues six goals, while Forbes and Hoskins added singles in the loss. Andrei Bruno (Toronto), Joncarlo Bairos (Toronto), Will Dunlop (Toronto) and Andrew Kerr (Clarington, Ont.) recorded one assist apiece.
Jankowski led all players with three goals and five assists for the Redmen. Luke LaCava (Weston, Conn.) added four assists in the victory.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow (Sept. 27) when they take on the Bishop’s Gaiters at Coulter Field.
