The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s tennis team defeated the McMaster Marauders 5-2 on Sunday, September 13 at Stoney Creek Tennis Club.
The Blues went undefeated in doubles play, as the number one team of Aisha Bhinia (Toronto) and Roxanna Soica (Toronto) shutout McMaster 8-0. Daria Zakharchenko (Sochi, Russia) and Anna Sullivan (Toronto) won the number two match 8-2, while Clarissa Binkley (Toronto) and Kamind Raghuram (Vancouver, B.C.) edged their opponents 6-4 in the number three match.
Toronto went on to win the number one, two and three matches. Zakharchenko defeated McMaster’s Sabina Shin 6-1, 6-2, Soica beat Chelsea Goodenough 6-1, 6-1 and Bhinia dominated Marauder’s number three Danielle Rosenthal 6-0, 6-0 to secure the victory for Toronto.
Blues number six Christina Dykun (Crystal Lake, Ill.) also won her match 6-1, 6-0.
The Varsity Blues return to action on Thursday, September 17 when they take on the York Lions at York University. Matches are scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
