The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s tennis team fell 7-0 to the defending OUA champion Montreal Carabins in their first match of the 2009 OUA season on Saturday, September 12 at York University.

Toronto natives Roxana Soica and Aisha Bhimla recorded the Blues lone win of the day, defeating Montreal 8-5 in the number one doubles match. U of T’s number two and three doubles teams each fell 8-2, giving Montreal a 1-0 lead heading into singles action.

Despite a valiant effort, the Carabins proved to be too much for the Blues to handle in singles play. Bhimla’s effort in the number two match highlighted the morning as she fell in three sets.

The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow (Sept. 13) when they travel to take on the McMaster Marauders at Stoney Creek Tennis Club. Matches are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
