BLUES FALL IN SEASON OPENER

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s rugby team fell 80-0 to the McMaster Marauders in their 2009 season opener on Wednesday, September 9 at the University of Toronto’s Back Campus.

The defending OUA champion Marauders got off to a very quick start, showing ill effects from offseason and the young Blues squad was unable to match their strength and depth.

Grant Schneider (Oakville, Ont.) led McMaster with three tries for 15 points with Evan Smith (St. Catharines, Ont.) and John Housley (Burlington, Ont.) taylling two tries apiece.

Michael Sheppard chipped in with one try and two converts, while Tyler Ardon, Christopher Dickenson, Ryan Fried, Lucas McIvor, and Taylor Tuff each scored one try in the victory.

The Varsity Blues return to action this Sunday, September 13 when they travel to Kingston, Ont. to take on the Queen’s Gaels. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
