BLUES FALL TO BADGERS, WILL HOST GAELS IN QUARTER FINAL

In their last regular season game, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s hockey team fell 3-1 to the Brock Badgers on Sunday, February 22 at Varsity Arena.

Toronto finishes the regular season in third place in the OUA with a 16-10-0-1 record. They will host the Queen’s Gaels in a sudden death quarterfinal matchup, date/time TBD.

Third-year forward Kelly Walker (Brampton, Ont.) opened up the scoring when she picked up her own rebound and sent a backhand into the Toronto net.

Second-year forward Lindsay Hill (Ajax, Ont.) replied for the Blues four minutes later. She deked out Brock goaltender Beth Clause (Hamilton, Ont.), sending a beautiful backhand into the top corner of the net.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period.

Walker would add her second goal at the 4:38 mark of the second period as she skated across the high slot and wired a wrist shot over the glove of Blues goaltender Kendyl Valenta (Brampton, Ont.).

Midway through the second period, Toronto got into penalty trouble and found themselves down two players. Brock forward Michelle Lee (Innisfil, Ont.) took full advantage, also getting her own rebound to give the Badgers a two-goal lead.

Despite some good scoring opportunities in the third period, the Blues would not solve Clause again and fell 3-1.

Team captain Lyndsey Ryan (Ajax, Ont.) was named the Blues player of the game.

Walker scored two goals and added one assist, while Lee recorded one goal and two assists in the Brock victory.
