The Varsity Blues men’s and women’s water polo teams took care of business on Monday night (Nov. 9) in Varsity Pool as both teams handily defeated the visiting McMaster Marauders 17-7 and 21-7, respectively.
In the first game of the evening, Casey Pottier (Kitchener, Ont.) led the way for the women’s team with seven goals - four of which game in the first half 14-goal explosion to give the Blues a comfortable nine-point lead heading into the second half of play.
Pottier again led the Blues charge in the final two quarter, tallying three more goals as Toronto went on a 7-2 run to close out the game in fine fashion.
Nicole Brown (Burlington, Ont.) added four goals, while Brittany Sinclair (Scarborough, Ont.) and Stephanie LeSaux-Farmer (Ottawa) scored three goals apiece.
The Varsity Blues men’s team picked up where the women left off. Led by Tuna Tali (Istanbul, Turkey) and Graeme Myers’ four-point performance, Toronto downed their opponents 17-7 in Monday’s late game.
With the game tied 2-2 after the first quarter of action, Myers (Toronto) scored three of his four goals in the second quarter to help the Blues on a 7-2 run and close out the half with a 9-4 lead.
The final two quarters played out much the same way the half ended: McMaster scored just three times to the Blues eight as Toronto pushed their OUA regular season unbeaten streak to seven.
Alan Chung (Ajax, Ont.) and Calum Kendrick (Ottawa) each scored three times in the win.
The men’s and women’s teams are off to Carleton University this weekend, Nov. 14-15, for their final regular season match-ups. The men play the Western Mustangs and Queen’s Gaels on Saturday before facing off against their OUA rivals, the Carleton Ravens on Sunday.
The women will do battle against their nemesis Carleton on Saturday before finishing the season against the Queen’s Gaels on Sunday.
