BLUES FALL TO EXCALIBUR 15-4

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s lacrosse team fell 15-4 to the Trent Excalibur on Saturday, October 3 in Peterborough, Ont.

The Excalibur combined good offensive pressure with solid defensive play to limit the Blues to one goal per quarter.

Trent attacker Chad Evans (Peterborough, Ont.) opened up the scoring with three goals before Blues leading scorer Mikael Chullen (Toronto) got U of T on the board late in the first quarter.

Evans would add another early in the second quarter, along with two goals from teammate Brett Dutkus (Welland, Ont.). Second-year arts and science major Andrew Kerr (Clarington, Ont.) responded for the Blues at the 10 minute mark, however Trent went on to score two more before time ran out. The Excalibur held an 8-2 lead at the half.

The Blues came out strong in the third, holding the Excalibur scoreless for the first eight minutes of the quarter. However, Trent went on to score three goals in a minute to widen the gap even further. Chullen added his second goal of the game at the midway mark of the quarter.

Second-year defender Mike Ayotte (Peterborough, Ont.) tallied the last Blues goal of the game midway through the fourth quarter. Trent would add four more markers in the last eight minutes to secure the 15-4 victory.

Chullen led the Blues with two goals and one assist, while Evans led all players with eight points for the Excalibur.

The Varsity Blues host the Trent Excalibur tomorrow (Oct. 4) in the second game of a home-and-home series at the University of Toronto’s Back Campus. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
