CROSS COUNTRY BODES WELL AT BROCK OPEN

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues cross country team posted top results at the 2009 Brock Open on Saturday, October 24 in St. Catharines, Ont.

The Blues men team finished in second place during the 6km race.

First-year life science major Ethan Davenport (Aurora, Ont.) led the way with a sixth-place finish in a time of 20:55, while Jake Woloshyn (Scarborough, Ont.) and Alex Denault (Aurora, Ont.) finished in 11th and 12th, respectively. Woloshyn crossed the finish line in 21:14, with Denault 10 seconds being in 21:24.

Andrew Cruickshank (Toronto) placed 14th with a time of 21:28 and Andrew Kennedy (Toronto) was 21st in 21:41.

In women’s action, first-year runner Katie Housley (Burlington, Ont.) led the Blues with a seventh-place finish in the 3.5km race. Housley posted a time of 13:16. Adelaida Blaxley (Toronto) finished in 14th and Paulina Maher (Oakville, Ont.) also ran a solid race for U of T.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, October 31 when they travel back to St. Catharines, Ont. for the 2009 OUA championships.
