CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW: U SPORTS CROSS COUNTRY

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues cross country teams travel east to compete at the 2025 U SPORTS Cross Country Championships, hosted by l'Université de Sherbrooke this Saturday, Nov. 8.

Following a silver-medal performance at the OUA championships, Julia Agostinelli will once again be leading the Varsity Blues women, now on the national stage. She will be joined by 2025 OUA Student-Athlete Community Service Award winner Sarah White and second-year standout Kaitlyn Koyanagi as potential pack leaders in a large field of competitors for the U SPORTS women's cross country championship. Last fall the U of T women finished 12th in the team standings, while they most recently placed sixth at the OUA championships just two weeks ago.

The Toronto men enter the national championship race with consistency. Two weeks ago, five Varsity Blues runners placed in the Top 50 of the 135-person field competing at the OUA championships, earning a seventh-place team finish. Topping the Blues results was fourth-year runner Nima Ashtari, who crossed the line in 19th individually. Along with veteran Brandon Cidade and a returning Parker Levac, U of T will be looking to jump back into the men's Top 10.

The U SPORTS Cross Country Championships are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. (EST). All U SPORTS championships are broadcast on one of the following CBC Sports digital platforms: CBC Gem, CBCSports.ca, CBC Sports YouTube.
