As announced by U SPORTS on Thursday (Jan. 15) afternoon, University of Toronto Varsity Blues student-athlete Julia Agostinelli has been named to the Canadian national team for the 2026 FISU World University Cross Country Championships from March 14-15 in Italy.
A standout with both the U of T cross country and track and field teams, Agostinelli has already captured three provincial medals and a national gold mid-way through her second season wearing the Blue and White. A physical therapy graduate student from London, she garnered OUA all-star honours at both the 2024 and 2025 OUA Cross Country Championships, including a silver medal finish at the latter. She additionally earned U SPORTS all-Canadian recognition with a fourth-place finish at the 2025 U SPORTS Cross Country Championships this past fall.
On the track with the Blues she won national gold in the 1500m at the 2025 U SPORTS Track and Field Championships, while also picking up two provincial bronze medals placing third in both the 1000m and 1500m at the 2025 OUA Track and Field Championships.
Prior to joining the U of T track and field program in 2024, Agostinelli competed at the University of Guelph during her undergraduate career from 2021-24. She was named OUA MVP in 2023, 2024 OUA Track and Field Championship women's performer of the meet, and has received the OUA and U SPORTS Community Services Awards.
Agostinelli will compete as a member of Canada's 3km team in Italy.
