The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to the Windsor Lancers in their 2009-10 OUA season opener on Saturday, October 24 at St. Denis Centre.
The Blues won the first set 25-11, before the Lancers battled back to take the next two 21-25, 11-25. Toronto stayed alive with a 25-22 victory in the fourth game, but came up short, dropping the fifth and final set 15-8.
Fifth-year veteran Steven Kung led all players with 26 kills and seven digs, while second-year left side hitter Mike Manning (Vernon, B.C.) amassed 23 kills and six digs in the loss.
The Lancers were led by Kyle Williamson’s 13 kills. Justin Kuskoff and Josh Edwards had 10 and 11 kills, respectively, in the victory.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to London, Ont. to take on the Western Mustangs. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
