The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s lacrosse team fell 18-5 to the Bishop’s Gaiters on Sunday, October 18th at Back Campus.
Due to injuries the Blues were undermanned, dressing only twelve players; nevertheless they put up a good fight throughout the game.
Joseph Laleune (Halifax, NS.) and Andrew MacKay (Cornwall, Ont.) helped the Gaiters take the lead in the first quarter, each landing one goal and one assist. Blues Jordan Nizich (Toronto, Ont.), who normally plays defence, was called in to play his first game as an attacker and ended up scoring the first point for Toronto.
In the second quarter Mikael Chullen (Beaches, Ont.) and Mike Ayotte (Peterborough, Ont.) scored for the Blues, both with assists from middleman MarcAnthony Koukoulas (Boston, Mass.). However, the Gaiters responded, building a 7-1 lead at halftime.
The final half of the game was dominated by the Gaiters who maintained their advantage, but U of T did manage to notch another two goals. Ayotte landed another one for the Blues (his fifth goal of the weekend), and Nizich followed suit.
The Blues take to the field on Saturday, October 24th when they host the Carleton Ravens at the University of Toronto’s Back Campus. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m.
