The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s basketball team handily defeated the RMC Paladins 78-51 on Friday, January 30 at the Kingston Military Community Sports Centre.
With the win, Toronto extends their winning streak to seven games, remains undefeated in 2009 and has taken over the top spot in the OUA East division.
The Blues dominated all night. They held a 41-28 lead at the half and were able to hold RMC to only 23 second-half points to come away with the 27-point victory.
The Blues went 24-for-27 from the free-throw line and racked up 21 steals in the victory.
Alaine Hutton (Hamilton, Ont.), Nicki Shutz (Toronto) and Tara Kinnear (Kemptville, Ont.) each tallied 15 points, while Kingston, Ont. native Erin McNeely added nine points in front of her hometown crowd.
The Paladins were led by Sharlene Harding’s (Brampton, Ont.) game-high 22 points.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow night as they take on the Queen’s Gaels at the Bartlett Gymnasium in Kingston, Ont. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
