BLUES FALL TO LANCERS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team fell to the Windsor Lancers 38-14 at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Lancers got on track early in the first quarter as quarterback Sam Malian (LaSalle, Ont.) connected with Ricky Postma (Blenheim, Ont.) on a 21-yard catch and run to give Windsor a 7-0 lead.

After another Lancer touchdown, Blues quarterback David Hamilton (Mississauga, Ont.) hit Cory Kennedy (Metcalfe, Ont.) in the back of the end zone to cut the Lancers lead to ten, 17-7 at the half.

Toronto came out with momentum to begin the second half as team captain Mark Stinson (Calgary, Alta.) broke out for a 31-yard catch and ran through the Lancer defence.

Malian hit CIS all-Canadian receiver Glenn MacKay (Burlington, Ont.) with a 29-yard for the Lancers, making it 27-7 going into the fourth quarter.

The Blues continued to press and scored their second major of the game on a 12-yard touchdown run from Hamilton. The Lancers bounced back as running back Daryl Stephenson (London, Ont.) ran one into the end zone to secure the victory.

Hamilton completed an impressive 25 of 35 passes for 256 yards, while Stinson and Kennedy led the Blues receiving for 86 and 72 yards, respectively.

First-year Mississauga, Ont. native Wilkerson Desouza recorded five solo tackles while Brandon Miller and Scott Smith each recorded four solo tackles for the Blues defence.

First year transfer student Matthew Morris (Scarborough, Ont.) now leads the OUA and CIS after two games with five kick returns for 152 yards.

The Blues football team returns home when they face the York Lions in the annual Blue and Red Bowl on Saturday, September 13, at 1 p.m. at Varsity Centre.
