In what was a tightly contested match, the Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team came up just short to the Queen's Gaels 8-7 on Sunday, September 28 in Kingston, Ont.
The Blues dominated offensively, scoring three unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a 4-1 lead at the midway point of the game. The third quarter proved to be the bane of the Blues existence once again, as the Queen's Gaels scored five goals in a row to take the lead. The fourth quarter went back and fourth and fourth-year veteran Beau Bassett (Nassau, BAH) tied it up with a minute to go to send the game into overtime.
Despite the Blues best efforts, attacker Nathan Leader (Toronto, Ont.) scored his fifth goal of the game, in overtime, securing the win for the Gaels.
Will Dunlop (Windsor, Ont.) led the Blues with three goals and two assists while Bassett added one goal and two assists in the loss.
On Saturday, the Blues suffered at 10-6 loss to the first-place Trent Excalibur (5-0-0).
Toronto returns to action next weekend when they take on the McGill Redmen on Saturday, October 4th at Varsity Centre and the Carleton Ravens on Sunday, October 5th at the University of Toronto’s back campus field. The game times are scheduled for 4 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
