The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s hockey team fell 4-1 to the York Lions on Saturday, November 8th at the York Ice Gardens.
The Lions scored two power-play goals and one short-handed marker in the second period to build a three-goal lead. York would add another goal early in the third period before Toronto finally got on the board.
With less than 10 minutes to go in the game, fourth-year veteran Amy Cornell (Oakville, Ont.) took a pass from fellow assistant captain Annie DelGuidice (Hamilton, Ont.) and put one past York goaltender Sydney McMurter (Orillia, Ont.).
Despite their best efforts, the Blues could not find the back of the net again and recorded their third loss of the 2008-09 regular season.
This is the first time that Toronto has lost back-to-back regular season games since falling 3-2 to the Guelph Gryphons (Oct. 14, 2007) and 2-0 to the Laurier Golden Hawks (Oct. 20, 2007).
The Varsity Blues will look to bounce back on the road next weekend, as they travel to face the Windsor Lancers on November 15th and the Western Mustangs on November 16th. The puck drops at 4:10 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
