GOLDEN HAWKS CLAW PAST BLUES

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s basketball team fell 71-63 to the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday, November 21 at the WLU Athletic Complex.

The Blues dug themselves a hole early, trailing 7-1 in the first three minutes of the game. Despite ten points from forward Nicki Shutz (Toronto), Toronto was down 24-15 after the first quarter.

The next two quarters saw the Blues outscore the Golden Hawks and take the lead. Toronto was able to cut their deficit to five points at halftime and took their first lead of the game midway through the third quarter, building a 49-48 advantage going into the final frame.

Despite the Blues best efforts, the Golden Hawks quickly regained the lead in the fourth quarter and didn’t look back.

Shutz recorded her third double-double of the year, tallying 15 points and 17 rebounds. Hamilton, Ont. native Alaine Hutton led the Blues with 17 points in the loss.
