First-year figure skater Amanda Tully has been named the Varsity Blues female athlete of the week for her gold- and silver-medal performances at this past week’s Ryerson-Toronto winter invitational held Jan. 21-22 at Varsity Arena.

A Faculty of Physical Education and Health student, Tully and partner Veronica Hall skated a wonderful program in the senior similar pairs to capture one of Toronto’s two first-place finishes. 

In only her second university competition, Tully of Barrie, Ont. then proved herself a worthy opponent in the gold freeskate, finishing second behind veteran skater Sarah Burke from the University of Western Ontario. She also finished seventh in the gold solo dance competition.

In a tremendously competitive field that featured 11 different universities, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues finished sixth in the overall team standings.
