Third-year veteran Sasha Obucina went 3-0 in the No. 1 singles position in leading the Varsity Blues men’s tennis team to a silver-medal finish at the OUA championships this past weekend.

A computer science major from Etobicoke, Ont., Obucina was named an OUA all-star for his stellar performances over the three-day tournament. He kicked off the weekend with a 6-0, 6-0 victory versus Brock’s Oliver Arvinraj, while also teaming up with Stefan Marusic to defeat the Badgers, 8-0, in the No. 1 doubles match.

Obucina then came up with a big 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 singles victory over Western’s Andre Szilvassy in semi-final action. He concluded the weekend with a dominant 6-1, 6-5 win over the eventual OUA champion Montreal Carabins No. 1 singles player, Rached Rihani.
