University of Toronto Varsity Blues rower Michael Braithwaite was named the oarsman of the year at the Canadian University Rowing Association championships this weekend (Oct. 31 – Nov. 1) at the Olympic rowing basin at Ile Notre-Dame in Montreal, Que.

The Duncan, B.C. native claimed the gold medal in the men’s open single with a time of 7:38.8, a full five boat lengths (14 seconds) ahead of the second-place boat from Trent.

 

The fifth-year cognitive science major was unanimously voted the oarsman of the year by the head coaches of all universities competing at the CURC.
