Fourth-year standout Sasha Gollish was named the CIS female most outstanding performer of the meet in leading the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s track and field team to their first national title since 1998 this past weekend in Windsor.
The Toronto native helped U of T’s 4x800 relay team set a new CIS and Canadian record, crossing the finish line in 8:32.36. It was the second time in two weeks that the Blues had eclipsed the Canadian mark, after setting a new standard at the OUA championships.
Gollish claimed the individual titles in the 1000m and 3000m, while earning silver in the 600m and 1500m races. A civil engineering PhD candidate, Gollish ran all five faces in a span of 24 hours, earning first team all-Canadian honours and breaking the U of T 600m record, previously held by 2012 Olympian Sarah Wells.Â
