First-year University of Toronto swimmer Kylie Masse garnered six gold medals, broke five records and earned all three major awards while leading the Varsity Blues to their second straight OUA championship banner this past weekend (Feb. 5-7) in Ottawa.

Masse was named the OUA female swimmer of the year, rookie of the year, and received the Dr. Jeno Tihanyi award for individual medley (IM) excellence.

She earned four individual gold medals, all in OUA-record breaking time. After opening the meet with a record-breaking performance in the 100 backstroke and a gold medal in the 200 freestyle relay, the LaSalle, Ont., native broke three-time Olympian Joanne Malar’s 20-year-old 200 IM record (2:12.86) in a time of 2:12.78.

The kinesiology major jumped right back in the water and set a new standard in the 200 backstroke and capped off Day 2 helping Toronto’s 400 medley relay team to an OUA record time of 4:10.06.

Masse ended the meet by completing the backstroke sweep, winning the 50-metre even in 28.02 seconds.
