High jumper Alex Witmer earned his first national title at the 2011 CIS track and field championships in Sherbrooke, Que. 

A native of Kitchener, Ont., Witmer cleared 2.16m to claim the gold medal.  The 2011 OUA high jump champion topped a field of 10 jumpers on Friday evening.  Dalhousie's Simon Watt's was Witmer's closest competitor at 2.10m. 

Witmer was also named a first team all-Canadian for his gold-medal national performance
