Third-year standout Andrea Jurenovksis swept the backstroke events and was named the female swimmer of the year at the 2011 OUA swimming championships, February 10-12, in Guelph, Ont.

 

Jurenovskis completed the sweep on Day 3 bettering her second 2001 record held previously by Olympian Julie Howard (28.93) in the 50 backstroke with a time of 28.71 seconds.

 

The Timmins, Ont., native first topped Howard’s 100 backstroke record of 1:01.90 with a time of 1:00.63, before dominating the women’s 200 backstroke in a time of 2:13.41. Jurenovskis also swam the first leg of a record-breaking 400 medley relay for the Blues.

 

In addition, Jurenovskis earned silver medals in the 50 butterfly (28.17) and as a member of Toronto’s 200 freestyle relay team.
