While at Seneca College (1999-2002), Derek played under Ed Drakich on the men’s varsity volleyball team. He was the captain for three years – two of which the team won provincial bronze medals. Derek won the outstanding team contribution award several years in a row (2000, 2001, 2002), was named team MVP (2002) and received the all-Ontario Academic Award (2001, 2002) and the Stephen E. Quinlan Merit Award (2002) which goes to the student who has demonstrated excellence in leadership and exceptional team contribution. Derek takes great pride in creating a true team atmosphere – whether playing or coaching.
Derek currently works in the marketing intelligence field as a research executive at Millward Brown (a brand and advertising consultancy firm). When not working, Derek loves playing both indoor and beach volleyball with friends. Derek graduated with honours from the marketing administration program at Seneca College and then went on to complete a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Ryerson University.
