The University of Toronto Varsity Blues are excited to share the commitment of Reichen Thorpe to the men's basketball program for the 2026-27 season.

"The decision to attend the University of Toronto as a student-athlete was a simple choice - both the academics and athletics stood out to me as superior to other universities," said Thorpe. "The international reputation and academic excellence of the university create the exact atmosphere that I want to be part of. Coach Trivedi and Coach Evans have both been amazing throughout the recruitment process and have made the team seem like a new family to me. I am excited to spend my next four years on campus and on the court."

 A 6-foot-8 forward guard from Ottawa, Thorpe joins the Blues via Crestwood Preparatory College, Cali Prep Academy, and Northern Kings.

A versatile athlete, Thorpe has been a standout on both the basketball court and lacrosse field. With his high school teams he earned basketball most improved player and helped the lacrosse team qualify for OFSAA championships twice. On the club level, he garnered Capital Courts all-star game MVP and is a four-time lacrosse provincial silver medalist. His exceptional athleticism would see him selected for the Canada Basketball NextGen national team training camp as part of the 2023 NCAA College Basketball Academy.

A strong student, Thorpe has earned honour roll with distinction. He is set to study Humanities at U of T beginning in the fall.

Students who sign a letter of intent and/or commit to Varsity Blues intercollegiate teams will be eligible to play at the University of Toronto provided they are academically admissible and have applied through the normal process with the Ontario Universities Application Centre.
