 Matt Deans joined the Varsity Blues coaching staff in March 2024 with seven seasons of OUA experience. He spent the last six years with the York Lions, where he coached a variety of positions including running backs, receivers, tight ends, and offensive line, in addition to having stints of being the run game coordinator and recruiting coordinator during that time.

Deans began his coaching journey with the Etobicoke Eagles (2011-14), where he spent three seasons as the U18 offensive coordinator. He then proceeded to become the offensive coordinator for the New Market Bucs U18 program in 2015; concurrently he spent time with St. Maximillan Kolbe H.S, as the associate OC and receivers coach from 2016-17. In 2019, Deans became the head coach/offensive coordinator for the York Region Lions, where he held the position until 2022. He guided his team to a 6-2 record and a regional rep championship in his first year with the team in 2019. He also has had experience working with the Team Ontario U16 program coaching the wide receivers in 2019.

As a player, Deans was a receiver for York from 2010-14. After he graduated, he acquired his Master’s degree in Coaching from Ohio University in 2017.
