Biography

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues are excited to share the commitment of Lisa van der Knaap to the field hockey program for the 2025 season.

"U of T really stood out to me not only because it has one of the best field hockey programs in Canada, but also because of its academically driven environment," said van der Knaap. "This will allow me to push myself alongside motivated teammates while continuing to pursue my goals as a high performance athlete. I’m excited to be part of a supportive and competitive team where everyone encourages each other both on and off the field."

During her time at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School, she was a key contributor to the field hockey team, serving as captain and earning MVP honours in both grade 11 and 12. Under her leadership, the team captured the HCDSB Championship and advanced to the OFSAA quarter-finals.

Beyond high school, van der Knaap honed her skills with the Halton Thrashers at the Halton Field Hockey Club and represented Team Ontario from 2023-25. Her standout performances earned her a spot in Field Hockey Canada’s NextGen program, where she trained alongside the nation’s top talent. She was also selected for the U18 Women’s Indoor National Team for competitions in Philadelphia (2024) and the CANAM series (2025), as well as the U18 Women’s National Team that competed in Wales in 2025.
