Football Selection Criteria

In selecting athletes as members of the Varsity Blues football team, the coaching staff will consider the following:
  • Competitiveness in relation to your years of eligibility
  • Overall competitiveness in practice and in scrimmages
  • Work ethic in practice and games
  • Technical skill for performance and safety
  • Physical attributes (height, weight, jump, strength, coordination, quickness, speed etc.)
  • Coachability, perseverance and leadership skills
  • Conditioning & preparedness for performance and safety
  • Communication skills and interactions with student-athletes, coaches, and support staff
  • Make choices that reflect a positive and winning attitude
  • Choices that indicate that you are a responsible student-athlete
  • Good nutritional, sleep, training & study choices
  • Be a part of a solution when there is a challenge
  • Durability
  • Physical preparation
  • Knowledge and execution of team systems and schemes
  • Player potential
  • Chemistry (positive interactions with teammates)
  • The ability to make all the right choices in representing the Varsity Blues Football program and the University - reflecting a winning attitude on and off the field and in the classroom.
  • Due to the large numbers, we must be confident that you will get a fair opportunity to compete, get repetitions and proper instruction
Our 2025 training camp roster size is restricted by U SPORTS regulations and is full. If you wish to join the team in our off-season (winter) programming for an opportunity to be assessed and evaluated please contact the coaching staff in December 2025.
