Women's Soccer Selection Criteria

All selection decisions will be made based on the needs of the team, which include but are not limited to: positional needs, team direction, short and long term team requirements.

1st and 2nd year players with more time for development will be considered in comparison to more senior players at the same technical/tactical level.Â

Selection Criteria:
Â
1. Tactical and decision-making - positional sense, movement off the ball, attacking and defending in small groups, understanding of roles and responsibilities in and out of possessionÂ
Â
2. Technical Ability – dribbling, ball control, passing, shooting, heading, 1 vs 1 situations, crossing and finishing, attacking/defending Â
Â
3. Physical Qualities – Endurance, speed, quickness, agility, strength
Â
 4. Work ethic – maximum effort given in training, meets the desired intensity level, goes beyond what is required Â
Â
5. Attitude – positive interaction with teammates, shows commitment, respectful Â
Â
6. Coachable – Positive interactions with coaching staff, receptive to feedback, player is able to carry out a game plan, is willing to learn Â
Â
Consideration is given to players who compete in a competitive league during the summer months i.e - League1 Ontario (Premier, U19, U21) /Ontario Soccer League League (U21)/Ontario Youth Soccer League/Academy Leagues or equivalent levels of play outside of Ontario.Â

Student-athletes selected for the team must attend all training, matches and team events for both the Fall and Winter Term and the summer off-season unless otherwise specified by the Head Coach.Â

Players who remain in the GTA in the spring and summer must play for the U of T Affiliate League1/League1 Reserve team unless a previous agreement has been made with the Head Coach

Team selection will be made by end of the day on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
