The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision versus the visiting Queen's Gaels on Saturday (Feb. 7) afternoon inside Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House.
Set scores in the match were 19-25, 10-25, 24-26.
In the second of back-to-back matches versus the Gaels, U of T struggled to find their form. Despite several energy boosting swings for Toronto, including an exciting third set which went into extra points, the Blues were consistently met at the net by the visitors who tallied 10 total blocks across the three-set contest. When U of T did get the ball through the front line of the Gaels, Queen's were also successful in extending rallies with high effort digs. This never allowed the Toronto attack to find a rhythm resulting in the quick home defeat.
Third-year outside hitter Giulia Chimilovksi led all Blues on the afternoon with 10 kills and one solo block for a team-high 11 points. All over the court defensively as well, Chimilovksi added 11 digs alongside a game-high 13 from fellow third-year libero Delaney Watson.
For the Gaels, Claire Carter led the visitors in points, kills and digs in the win. At the net, the duo of Lauren MacPhail and Abigail McAlpine combined for seven of Queen's 10 blocks on the day.
Toronto will look to bounce back on home court welcoming the Western Mustangs to Goldring Centre next Friday, Feb. 13. First serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tickets are available at
