The No. 2 seed in the OUA University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's volleyball team fell 3-0 to the No. 7 seed Nipissing Lakers in the OUA quarter-final at Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House.
Set scores were: 25-17, 25-17, 25-22.
Looking to defend home court with a loud crowd behind them, the two sides traded blows throughout the first set. In the late stages, Nipissing was able to force the Blues into making errors to take the first set. Momentum stayed in the Lakers favour in the second set as they took a commanding 2-0 lead. The Blues were able to swing momentum back in their favour as they matched Nipissing's intensity with their season on the line. As the two teams traded points a late run from the Lakers stunned the Blues to complete the sweep.
Fifth-year outside hitter Hunter Arulpragasam led the Blues in scoring with 12.5 points on a .321 hitting percentage. Fellow fifth-year standout Maxime Gratton notched 10 points and five digs. Fourth-year setter Michael Hickey had a team-high 27 assists and also added five digs.
For the Lakers, Marc Marchand led the way with 15.5 points while Benjamin Franz and Justice Smith notched 10.5 and 10 points respectively. Jack Svendsen had a game-high 31 assists.
The Blues will now turn their attention to the offseason as they look to regroup going into the 2026-27 season as they usher in the next generation of stars on the roster.
