BLUES SHINE IN CALGARY AT DINOS INVITATIONAL

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's and women's swimming team competed at the Dinos Invitational in against the Calgary Dinos and Lethbridge Pronghorns on Oct. 24-25 with U of T's men's team winning both days and the women's team earning a first-place finish on Sunday and a second-place finish on Saturday.

"This is a very important meet for us," said head coach Byron MacDonald. "It's a long way to travel but we're testing ourselves against an extremely talented team."

MEN'S RESULTS

The Blues men's team set the tone on Day 1 with a first and second place finish in the 50m back from third-year political science student Ben Winterborn and fifth-year kinesiology student Andrew Herman. Holding onto a 41-34 lead late, U of T poured it on winning the final four events of Day 1 with Elijah Daley and Leo Raffnsson finishing top-two in the 200 IM and Winterborn and second-year freestyle swimmer Paul Yang had podium finishes in the 200m freestyle and capping it off with a win in the 200m medley relay.

"Paul has worked so hard all last year and this year," MacDonald said. "During the summer he swam brilliantly and reached the elusive national cutoff times for the first time and has not looked back. His confidence showed tonight."

Shifting to Sunday, fifth-year kinesiology student Eric Ginzburg won seven events across the two days of competition, showcasing impressive times. "That's some of the toughest racing I've seen from anyone in a two-day period," said MacDonald. Meanwhile, Winterborn continued his strong weekend with three more wins on Sunday.

WOMEN'S RESULTS

Shifting over to the women's team, Calgary won the meet on Saturday with standout performances from the 2026 U SPORTS female swimmer of the year, Alexanne Lepage and Kamryn Cummings leading the way for the Dinos.
