Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

BLUES FLY HIGH AGAINST ONTARIO TECH

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team defeated the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 68-60 on Friday (Jan. 30) night at Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House.

U of T was strong on defence throughout the game and the momentum generated carried into offence. Toronto held Ontario Tech to 10 per cent shooting from beyond the three-point line. The Blues presence was felt in the paint, with 40 points and 48 rebounds as a team. The Blues bench was also dominant when called upon, outscoring the Ridgebacks 21-14. A late push from the Ridgebacks saw them cut U of T's lead to single-digit margins for the first time since the first half but the Blues held strong to secure the win.

The Blues were led by fourth-year forward Nigel Hylton, who was all over the floor with 17 points, nine rebounds and a game-high two blocks while shooting 57 per cent from the field. First-year guard Mikey Ballout put up 12 points and give rebounds. Third-year guard Nathan Bureau came off the bench and put up 10 points. Meanwhile, fellow third-year guard Simeon Jeffers reached the double-digit point plateau with 10 points and added six rebounds and a game-high two steals.

For Ontario Tech, Keon Baker notched a game-high 19 points and added five rebounds. Caleb Kassa and Emmanuel Okonkwo each reached double digits in points with 13 and 10 respectively.

The Blues are back in action on Saturday (Jan. 31) afternoon when they take on the Queen's Gaels at Goldring Centre – Kimel Family Field House. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m., with tickets available at varsityblues.ca/tickets. The game will also be streamed live on oua.tv.
